Seasonal Skincare: Spring Face Mask
Here we are in the midst of Spring… has the spring-cleaning bug gripped you yet?
It’s always great to clear out the cobwebs, as it were… or maybe literally… and have a good tidy up and sort out. I’m sure there’s even research somewhere that proves the beneficial effects of cleaning and tidying on our mental and emotional wellbeing.
I find a big sense of calm while tidying and cleaning. For me, it’s a great way to de-stress and take my mind off anything that might be troubling me. And I also find it really fun (just me?), and get a huge feeling of accomplishment when I’ve finished… even if it’s something as small as tidying one kitchen drawer.
Spring Cleaning Your Skin
Sometimes, our skin can benefit from a bit of a spring clean, too.
At this time of year, as our bodies are coming out of the slower "hibernation" phase of winter, we can experience "traffic jams" within our skin, which show up as congestion, dullness, acne breakouts, puffiness, and the like.
But don’t worry, there are simple ways to support your skin during this seasonal transition. One of my favourites is by using a face mask because, as I am about to share, it so easily becomes so much more than “just” a face mask.
The Face Mask
Freyaluna Face Masks come to you in a dry powder form, and this is for two main reasons…
- we don’t have to add preservative and so you get the purest product possible
- you can tailor the mask to your skin type and needs, which means you can create a really personal product just for you and your skin
Let me give you a few examples of that second point I’ve just mentioned. You can blend these powders simply with water or Facial Mist, or here are a few ideas for blending your Face Mask based on your skin type…
- Spot-prone skin – blend with aloe vera gel or juice, or try adding a few drops of Clarifying Blemish Serum for additional spot-fighting benefits
- Dry skin – blend with some Facial Moisturiser or Facial Oil, or a few drops of Intensive Hydration Facial Serum for extra nourishment
- Spot-prone dry skin – blend with aloe vera and a few drops of Ban The Blemish Clarifying Facial Oil to fight spots and nourish dryness all in one go
This means that you can use any of our Face Masks, no matter what your skin type or needs. Because you can blend it to match those needs. And don’t forget, you can tailor your facial ritual further by multi-masking.
Let's Go Beyond The Mask
This is where the face mask becomes so much more than a face mask. Again, let me give a few examples…
Face Mask Ritual
We all know this one, don’t we – we apply the mask mixture to our skin, leave it for 10-15 minutes, and then remove with warm water. This is a well-known and popular ritual, and with very good reason because the mask alone will have many benefits for your skin (plus the 10-15 minutes gives you time to chill out and relax which is always a good thing).
Did you know… you don’t have to let the mixture sit on your skin. If you’re in a hurry or stuck for the extra fifteen minutes, then simply mix-up your mask and use it as a facial polish to exfoliate your skin. For this ritual, you could mix the mask powder with some cream cleanser to get cleaning and exfoliating benefits in one ritual.
As the name implies, this is where you do both of the above rituals in one. Let me explain… you blend the mask, apply it to your skin and leave it for 10-15 minutes. And then, after that time, rather than just washing the mask off with water, you take a warm wet cloth and, using gentle circular movements, you exfoliate your skin while removing the mask.
And this gorgeous skin treatment doesn’t have to end there! Because the mask is a preparation phase. While you have added many benefits to your skin with the face mask, it has also prepared your skin for what you can do next – whether that’s a serum, oil, or moisturiser – your skin is now in the perfect state to gain the most from that product.
Add to that, the act of facial massage while you apply your facial oil or moisturiser, and your skin will be in the best condition possible.
